Head Chef Daniele Aloi puts his heart and soul into planning the menu for Stokey Veg & Vegan, which will offer a mix of small-plate Italian and British dishes with inspiration drawn from Daniele’s extensive travel, including Japanese and Spanish influences.
Options include roasted beetroot tartar, herb-marinated and Japanese spiced jackfruit, black quinoa, lentil and sesame burger and vegan pistachio tiramisu. Daniele is hugely passionate about the dishes they serve and spends a lot of time front-of-house explaining the menu to customers. The wine list is also vegan.
The restaurant occupies the former Salt & Vinegar fish and chip shop near Abney Cemetery. The walls are adorned with artwork from a local gallery, which changes monthly.
Daniele’s previous experience includes time at luxury restaurant Proud East on Kingsland Road and at Japanese tapas restaurant Kurobuta.
Describing their venture, the team behind Stokey Veg & Vegan state: “Our mission is to encourage more people to try and understand how tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes can be. The menu is a small plates concept, so you can try and share different flavours.”
