The Dad Taking Knives Off North London’s Streets

A North London dad who was stabbed nine times is running an informal knife amnesty in a bid to make the streets safer.

Farron Paul, from Tottenham, recently launched FazAmnesty – he’s offering JD vouchers to young people who hand their weapons in to him. The 31-year-old then hands the knives he collects to the police but doesn’t pass on the details of who gave them to him. He collects dozens of knives at a time.

And he’s captured the attention of movie star Idris Elba, who accompanied him on a recent collection. Praising Farron’s efforts, Idris said: I came from Hackney - at 16 I decided to go into acting but I could have gone a very different route.”

Farron said: “I want to stop all the killings and all the senseless murders.'

“Every time I take a knife off the street I am probably saving a life and stopping someone from going to jail."

“I do it because I have kids and I want them to live long and happy lives.”

Farron is usually accompanied by a friend and takes his dog when he goes to collect a knife and he wears a stab proof vest. His Facebook page features videos of horrifying weapons, including swords, daggers and even an axe.

In an interview with Sky News he said: “I’m trying to help build a better future for the next generation and a situation where local communities don’t need to live in fear.

“Why would any young kid walk into a police station and hand in a knife? They think it will lead to more problems for them.”

Young people from as far away as Cardiff and Liverpool are contacting Faron and asking him to take their knives.
