The 23-year-old lettings consultant at Location Location is swimming to raise money for charity, off the Pembrokeshire coast wearing nothing but a pair of Speedos.
He’s doing it in memory of a friend who took his own life and for the thousands effected by mental health every day. He’s swimming to raise funds for the mental health organisation Get the Boys a Lift.
He said: “I try to increase the distance I swim every year. Jumping into a freezing cold sea is a surreal feeling. The worst thing is at the end of the swim the beach is full of pebbles – when I get out, I am completely numb and can’t feel my feet so walking to the marquee is sheer bliss as I cannot feel a thing, but I am glad it’s over”
Get the Boys a Lift supports local and national mental health projects, from keeping suicide hope lines open to funding therapeutic art classes and providing councillors for people in rural communities.
Around 400 people are taking part in the swim in Little Haven.
Karl added: “Men’s mental health is something we need to raise more awareness about. Rate’s of male youth suicide are too high and Get the Boys a Lift helps make sure vulnerable young men have the help they need.”
