How a chance meeting sparked a legacy of giving

Jenna Fansa and Vicky Bibiris met five years ago - their friendship sparked a charity appeal to bring Christmas to thousands of local children in poverty.

Each year Jenna’s companies StokeyParents and the Local Buyers Club discount card join forces with Vicky’s company Location Location to run the Winter Toy Appeal – collecting new toys for children experiencing extreme hardship in Hackney.  Last year 4,000 children received a gift.

They’ve also set up a partnership collecting and delivering food for Hackney Food Bank and, when other crises flair up locally or oversees, Jenna and Vicky join forces to help.

Jenna said: “Meeting Vicky through work five years ago was like finding a kindred spirit – whatever mad idea either of us has for the next charity initiative, the other always says ‘yes’ and we always have a lot of fun and a fair amount of stress making it happen!

“In many ways, our companies are ideally suited to work together – StokeyParents and the Local Buyers Club has strong community reach but lacks physical space to store or accept donations and Location Location have consistently donated their space to these appeals, volunteered their time and helped fund promotional materials to spread the word.”

The pair have worked together on a range of projects – including one-off collections of winter coats for the homeless, collections of vital supplies for Calaid for refugees fleeing conflict and more regular support for the food bank and for Ivy Street Family Centre.

Vicky, a Partner at Location Location, added: “That old adage of ‘if you want something doing – ask a busy woman’ couldn’t be truer! But we’re lucky to have Jenna’s husband Basil and our brilliant workforce helping – together with an amazing community who always give so generously!

“Each year the toy appeal reaches more children than we ever imagined possible – it’s the highlight of our year!”
