For the fifth year, StokeyParents, Location Location and the team behind the Local Buyers Club have teamed up to run the Winter Toy and Food Appeal.
Last year’s appeal reached more than 4,000 children experiencing hardship. An estimated two thirds of children wouldn’t have received a new gift without the appeal.
This year child poverty in North and East London has gone up and appeal organisers hope to reach even more children.
Jenna Fansa, of the Local Buyers Club, said: “Our thanks go to everyone who has donated a toy so far - the deliveries are reaching us daily and we are overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers. Sadly deprivation locally has soared in recent years due to a combination of stagnating wages, benefit sanctions and the rising cost of living.
“The Ivy Street Family Centre who distribute the toys for us are regularly coming across parents who go without food so their children can eat, families are being housed in temporary and hostel accommodation where the conditions can be highly stressful and many struggle to get by.
“As always, we are incredibly grateful to Location Location who have supported the appeal since its launch - their help makes the most tremendous difference and their sponsorship means our appeal reached many more children. The toys donated to the appeal are distributed to children in most need by the Ivy Street Family Centre via a network of social workers, schools, children’s centres, hostels, refuges, food banks and Hackney Migrant Centre.
Please donate a NEW toy at Location Location (18 Stoke Newington Church Street) or buy via the online wish list www.toyappealwishlist.com
