The Winter Toy and Food Appeal which is run by the Local Buyers Club in partnership with Location Location estate agency, collected new toys for more than 4,000 children this Christmas. Many of those receiving gifts this year are living in temporary or hostel accommodation, fleeing violence or seeking asylum here.
Most of the children who received a gift wouldn’t have received a toy without the appeal. The appeal also collected the equivalent to more than 800 meals for Hackney Food Bank.
Appeal Founder Jenna Fansa said: “As well as thanking the incredible people who supported this appeal and gave such beautiful gifts, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Location Location for their incredible generosity and constant kindness. They funded storage space for the toys we collected, were a drop-off point for people wishing to donate and they provided the lorry that was needed to move all the toys just before Christmas.
“This year Vicky at Location Location also helped us seek referrals from agencies for children eligible to receive a toy. And the money they donated in return for residents putting up boards advertising the appeal, funded 300 amazing toys for children in need.
“Estate agents get a lot of bad press, but these guys are doing everything possible to break the mould. They make a very positive contribution to the community they serve and we’re incredibly lucky to have their support for this and other local appeals.”
